Open Source Stories: The Open Patient

YouTube | 2016

Open Source Stories is a film series produced by Red Hat's internal creative team that highlights how values like meritocracy, collaboration, and transparency are changing the ways we live and work. The Open Patient tells the story of two brain cancer patients who, by accessing and sharing their medical data, are turning their crises into a movement. Through their advocacy for open healthcare data standards—along with the innovative work of the OpenNotes organization—millions of patients can take control of their healthcare.

Because the film was about "Open Notes" as well as patients taking their medical journeys into their own hands, it was important to capture an independent and personal experience through the poster design. I created three different styles of handwritten type as well as various icons/doodles to connect with the stories of the two featured patients.

The film along with the supporting photgraphy was shot so beautifully and purposefully by the team. They captured the spirit of these open source heroes in the most humanizing way.
